Bleaching

For stained or discoloured teeth bleaching can lighten teeth that have not responded sufficiently to professional cleaning.

Modern tooth whitening systems are both safe and highly effective.

Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth so that a custom-made whitening tray can be made. You will place a special bleaching gel in each tray and wear the trays for half an hour per day. This is continued until the desired whiteness of your teeth has been achieved.

Occasionally, patients may experience sore gums or tooth sensitivity when using bleaching trays. These symptoms subside when bleaching is discontinued for several days. Some teeth may be stained in a way that limits the effectiveness of bleaching. In those instances, porcelain veneers or crowns are an excellent alternative.
